William Hill will be partnering up with the Downtown Grand Casino to become the first sportsbook to take esports wagers in Nevada and America for that matter. They will start accepting wagers this weekend on the Intel Extreme Masters event in Oakland for the most popular game League of Legends.
Going live with esports was decided during a meeting of the Gaming Policy Committee in Nevada, which was led by their governor – Brian Sandoval.
This is a major step, which may ensure that Nevada will become the esports capital of the world. The state has ideas for becoming a mecca for the esports enthusiasts and events. Starting to offer legal wagers on such sports is only the beginning.
The sportsbook currently has 108 retail shops in Nevada. The customers can bet on the LoL event at any of them or the William Hill app if they are located in Nevada.
The Downtown Grand will even be hosting a viewing party for the IEM finals this Sunday at 10 am. The bettors will have the opportunity on one of the participating teams which are hosted this weekend at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
